Approach

Variety

Deliberate variety

Ever since its first projects, France Terre has been developing variety in its work. This variety is not the product of chance. It is created, directed and organised according to the town's housing requirements and the wishes of the council:

  • family variety first, creating housing with clearly defined characteristics aimed at the fundamental categories of occupants: single people, young couples, families with children, seniors;
  • then variety of occupation, combining owner-occupiers, institutional investors, tenants, social housing and private property in our developments;
  • and finally variety of development, constructing projects in which housing, shops, services, facilities and public spaces come together.

Variety as a tool

The group's directors have done a great deal of work with the Facilities and Housing ministry to develop an acquisition system that allows several modes of purchase and habitation within a single programme.

In parallel with this work, the developer's ambition was to make the residents happy and avoid them living in isolation. The aim has always been for the residents to share in common the satisfaction of living together, regardless of age or social status. And all this at a time when these words and concepts were decidedly innovative.

This variety in France Terre's operations has never been a regulatory constraint. Variety and its urban or architectural expression are integrated into the process as a key tool for each programme's success. France Terre thus initiated a lifestyle to which it has remained faithful for three decades.
